First Day of School

Jack and Brian Bell

Here are 2 of the 3 Bell Boys on the first day of school. These 2 headed off to the middle school, one "king of the hill" as an 8th grader and one "bottom of the barrel" as a 5th grader. Brian's excitement of going off to middle school quickly came to and end when he couldn't open his locker. (A trauma that will surely stay with him for the rest of his life.) There are no pictures of Casey because he did not want to go to school and wanted nothing to do with getting his picture taken. His first day of school started with him having to be surgically removed from me, but he quickly recovered and had a great day:)

Paige and Mrs. Bell

Our first days of kindergarten went smoothly. We drew pictures of what we did this summer during Writing Workshop, played tic-tac-toe in math, read The Night Before Kindergarten and made our own book about what we did the night before kindergarten. I enjoyed getting to know all of the children this week. I can tell it is going to be a great year in kindergarten!

  1. I got out the video camera before Ella got on the bus and asked her, "What day is today, Ella?". She answered, very confidently, "November 13th!". What exactly is she talking about? I have no idea. Hopefully Ella will learn a little more about which month is which in Mrs. Bell's room!

  4. Eve got on and off the bus without a hitch too. She told me she got off the bus, got in line, had rug time, colored, played on the playground, and she thinks she had science. "Mrs. Bell is great!"

  5. Michael loved his first day of kindergarten. His favorite part was when (and I quote) ".....Mrs. Bell asked him if he knew his upper and lower case letters. She showed them to him and he was excited to know them...".
Like Faith, he was so excited to ride the school bus but did not understand why he could not go back until Monday. A couple boys from our street took him under their wing and they all sat together. That was a highlight.

  7. Liam says he was not afraid to go into Kindergarten, and had fun. He was able to get his own book which was a big deal, but disappointed he was not able to go outside to play on the first day. Liam says there were not a lot of cool cars to play with, however, he was impressed with the Lego blocks, especially because they are little. Liam is excited to play on the new car mat in class.

  8. Carter said the first day of Kindergarten was "cool"! His favorite thing was, "All the nice kids and the nice teacher with long hair." He loved Mrs. Bell and thought it was nice that she said, "It's ok to scribble in Kindergarten sometimes because that is how we learn." My husband and I were so excited to move to Madeira this summer and so close to the school. We thought the boys would LOVE to walk to school. Apparently we were wrong....Carter is totally bummed out he is not riding the bus!
